SchoolMessenger Notification System
Lawrence schools value ongoing communication as a key to maintaining positive relationships between school and home and supporting student success. To enhance existing communication efforts, the Lawrence Public Schools have partnered with SchoolMessenger, an emergency notification, parental outreach service to reinforce ongoing communication with parents. Schools will use SchoolMessenger to inform parents of important school events and to notify parents in the event of a school emergency. As always, it's important for parents to provide schools current phone numbers, including emergency contact information.

PARENTS: OUR PARTNERS
Parents involved as partners in their child's education: that's one of the keys to the success of the Lawrence Public Schools. Parents participate in their children's education by volunteering in the classroom, reinforcing school curriculum with activities at home, serving on school site councils and parent-teacher organizations and by maintaining open communication between home and school.

If a school concern arises, talk first to your child's teacher. If additional assistance is needed with the issue, make an appointment to speak to your child's school principal. If the concern isn't resolved to your satisfaction, contact the district office at (785) 832-5000 and ask to speak to the administrative liaison for your child's school.

Lawrence Public Schools believe effective schools maintain positive relationships between home and school. We welcome parent input and participation.

Topics for Parents
School Resources

Students in the Lawrence Public Schools are taking the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. The MAP test helps teachers determine each child's instructional level and measure each's academic growth in reading and math from fall to winter to spring, and from year to year. MAP tests are adaptive; questions become more difficult as the child answers correctly and easier as the child answers incorrectly.

Talk to your child's teacher or principal about MAP. You can help your child be successful by reinforcing the importance of a good night's rest and a nutritious breakfast and encouraging your child to try hard and do his or her best work. Please avoid scheduling routine appointments for your child on testing days.
